You may have heard his name
on the radio, situated right in the middle of commercials for special
events at Mynt Ultralounge – and likewise, if you've been to Mynt,
you've probably grooved to tunes mixed by DJ Surge. With 11 years of
DJing up his sleeve and credits as a remixer and producer, DJ Surge is
no stranger to creatively spinning mashups and popular 80's and hip hop
jams. Here, he gives ColumbusParty.com a little insight to the man
behind the mixer:
Who:
DJ Surge
Where/when you can find him: Mynt Ultra Lounge; Thurs-Sat
Biggest influences: Q-Bert, Mixmaster Mike, DJ Magic Mike— I have
respect for anyone who works hard to make something from nothing. There
are so many, I could go on and on…
How do you determine what mix of songs/genres to play? Does it differ
from night-to-night and crowd-to-crowd? It's completely up to what I
think the crowd is feeling.
Who is your favorite artist to play around with? Michael Jackson
or Jay-Z
What is a sure-fire crowd pleaser? Journey's "Don't Stop
Believing"
I know you like to mix the old with the new; do you think this
especially appeals to the post-college young adults? I always tell
people there are really only two kinds of music: "Good" and "Bad". I
prefer to only play "Good"!!! But I mix it up with a lot of different
genres so everyone can get involved in the music.
What was the most fun event that you have DJ'd? The year I spent
in Vegas- so much energy!
Most rewarding aspect of what you do: Knowing I made someone feel
good and forget about any problems they had before they stepped into the
party. There is nothing better than seeing the crowd moving to what you
do!
